Adult Onset Photographer
Taking up new hobbies as an adult can be just as rewarding as it is challenging.
As a child, I always dreamed of being part of National Geographic, recording videos, taking pictures in far off lands of far off animals and people. I am not sure what was so encapsulating about the idea, regardless, it has been something that has continued to peak my interest for decades and decades.
Here I am, 30-some-odd-years later, finally starting to take up a hobby that I have always wanted to.
I always thought it was would pretty expensive to ‘try’ out photography. Additionally, I never really got into taking pictures with my phone, just something about it that doesn’t click with me. However, in the summer of 2023, on a whim, I was browsing Facebook Marketplace and came across a cheap, albeit good condition Canon Rebel T7. Realizing, for a couple hundred bucks, I could obtain a camera, a few lens, bag, and some other odds and ends, I took the jump. After a few weeks of playing around, taking photos of just about everything, I was hooked.
Now, I am the type of person that figures if you’re going to do something, do it right and give it your all - I dive head first into nearly everything I do. Work, hobbies, cooking - all of it, it always gets 100% of me and photography was going to be no different. I glued myself to YouTube and internet trying to determine which camera I should upgrade to, as lets be real, what brand new photographer doesn’t want the latest and greatest? In the end, I decide to purchase a Fujifilm X-S20 paired with the kit lens and a Fujifilm XF55-200 F3.5-4.8 lens.
This, is where my new hobby begins.
