A Dreary Morning
I took this morning off of work, dropped the kids off at school and headed to the local preserve, but this time, I took the small lens and a cup of coffee. Normally, I bring my 100-400mm lens and it stays on my camera the entire time. However, I have wanted to branch outside of taking pictures of just critters and begin taking macro-esque pictures of the natural world.

Walking around the preserve, looking down and around instead of up was a welcome change. While the weather and time of day wasn’t quite ideal, I made due and in the forest, it’s a little easier to find pockets of light and life. When I first started walking, I was not sure what I was looking for. I started by taking some pictures of long grass with some dew, but I didn’t care for it. I kept walking and looking, eventually, I stumbled upon this little plant growing from a mossy long and like that, I was inspired and it was as if something unlocked for me.

It makes me happy to learn how much I enjoyed today’s photo session. I’ve struggled finding other ways to stay engaged with photography and I feel that taking pictures of the tiny stuff might be exactly what I need. It helps that we are transitioning rather quickly into autumn - last week was in the 70’s and this week, 50’s for high temps - I expect a lot of the natural world to be changing, and changing quickly.
I am confident over the coming weeks I will get out of the house and into the forest to find additional inspiration and I look forward to sharing those moments with you.
Thanks for reading this quick little update. Until next time…
