Trip Planning

Trip planning is tough, especially when you have a limited number of days and an over abundance photo opportunities that you want to take.

You see, my wife, along with her brother and sister-in-law will be heading to Glacier National Park over the 4th of July where we’ll spend a mere 4 full days (6 total with travel days).

The journey, forward. Fujifilm X-s20, 192mm, f5.6

I am sure that time is going to fly by and it is important that I create a list photographs that I must take before my trip ends, as who knows when I will be back in Glacier.

I have always been fascinated by and interested in space - something about it the endless-ness and wonder of what is beyond. It’s emotional to me, even writing this piece, thinking about it, my mind wonders and wanders, giving me butterflies-in-my-tummy feeling. It just so happens that July 5th is a New Moon. Our second night in glacier will only be lit by the stars - assuming the weather holds up.

To support this endeavor I purchased the Samyang AF 12mm f/2.0 for my X-s20. I’ve been practicing with it at home, finding out which settings work and which don’t - I’d rather make mistakes here at home than in the field.

In addition to the Samyang 12mm, I purchased my new, favorite lens which is what has propelled my love for wildlife photography.

The Fujifilm XF100-400mm f4.0-5.6 is a spectacular lens and is giving me the reach and quality I desire. Previously I was using the Fujifilm XC50-230mm f4.5-6.7 as my primary wildlife lens and while that lens is pretty great for my needs, I desired more reach and higher quality.

My hope and desire is to stumble upon an abundance of wildlife while in Glacier. From mountain goats to ground squirrels and grizzly bears. The Fujifilm XF100-400mm should give me enough reach and quality to ensure, if given the opportunity, to take a photograph I will be satisfied with.

Our trip is now less than a month away and I couldn’t be more excited to get away and have the opportunity to capture memories to last a life time.

I’ll be sure to share photos that I capture. Until next time, thanks for reading.
